It's not everyday that a world-famous author has tea at my Library. If you sign-up for our program (October 8, 2013, from 10 a.m. to noon), you, too, will join Tess Gerritsen, bestselling author of the popular Rizzoli & Isles suspense series.

To promote our upcoming program, St. Francis Health of Mooresville loaned several really cool, authentic medical apparatuses (or apparatus--both plurals are grammatical, says Merriam-Webster), including an antique gurney (ca. 1920s), triage dividing curtain (styled ca. 1940s, although the fabric is a more modern synthetic, and the framing aluminum), skeleton (ca. 1960s), a see-through hand (ca. 1980s), and some other replicas of bones (your guess is as good as mine).

Antique Gurney (ca. 1920s)
The gurney originally came from Comer Sanitarium (1917-1962), which was located on South Indiana Street near downtown Mooresville. Previously, it had been known as Mooresville Sanitarium. The term sanitarium was replaced by hospital in 1948, and the medical facility became Kendrick Hospital (1962-1971), which became part of the St. Francis Health system about 14 years ago.

I'm not sure how old the skeleton is. It looks like standard medical school issue from the 1960s.

Boss Lady, Programma Mama, and the Decorinator added finishing touches by displaying many of Tess Gerritsen's bestselling novels, some copies of which are for sale, courtesy of our Friends of the Library (FOL) book sale room.
If you come to only one program at the Library this year, you should definitely make this your choice. Register online, or call (317) 831-7323. Don't dawdle! Our community room only holds so many people (200 total; 100 with tables and chairs), and this program will fill fast.
Our former library director, "Bone-ita" Marley, would have truly enjoyed this program. Probably not that awful pun, however.
