A Few Hours of Lifetimes

The Night in Lisbon, by Erich Maria Remarque, is a romance novel set in World War II.  It has adventure, suspense, Nazi horrors, and love.  This last is why it is characterized in the romance genre, but, like all of Remarque's books, it provides a realistic representation of life during the time and in the place in which the plot unfolds.  In this case, the setting is one night in Lisbon, Portugal.  (Don't confuse this book with the 1941 movie comedy, One Night in Lisbon, or your brain will seize-up.  That explains Scowl-Face's perpetual expression.)

P.S.  Lisbon is famous for its Fado music.   Here is "Mistérios de Lisboa," by Duarte, heard here in a documentary film excerpt about what tourists should see when they visit this great city in Portugal.
