Some Kinda Mind Control Going On Out There

My Library has just finished a promo trailer for Banned Books Week, which will be observed September 24 through October 1, 2011.  Visit the American Library Association (ALA) Banned & Challenged Books web site for lots of interesting and insightful information.  You should read a banned or challenged book or two.  Heck, read a whole stack.  You'll be surprised to discover some of the classics that have been the victims of successful and attempted censorship.

My Library's YouTube Channel has an entire playlist devoted to banned books. There are book trailers galore that showcase many fine books that some people, in their infinite wisdom, have decided are too dangerous for the likes of you and me.  (Well, you, anyway.)  We'd be pleased as tuna noodle casserole if you'd take a look at our book trailers.  They might help you select a banned or challenged book to while away a few pleasant hours.  (Or wile away, which is grammatically incorrect but often used.  Both forms are included in some dictionaries.  While away is preferred usage.  You can look it up.)

You may have noticed that our banned book promo trailer is "a Cauli Le Chat video."  Yep, I am now producing videos for my Library.  Guess I need one of those director's megaphones and a really cool beret.  You've probably seen caricatures of silent movie directors.

Regarding the silent movie director's costume, Scowl-Face takes an extra-large.  Just saying.

P.S.  Scowl-Face told me that he heard "Kodachrome," by Paul Simon, played in the summer of 1973 on a western radio station (either in Wyoming or Montana) with the word crap excised from the station's song tape.  The resultant audio gap drew attention to the missing word much more dramatically than the word itself would have done if left unedited.  (The lyric appeared in the first line, in which Paul sang, "When I think back on all the crap I learned in high school, it's a wonder I can think at all.")  Censorship can be a stiletto or a machete, depending upon the user.  ["Kodachrome" appeared on the album, There Goes Rhymin' Simon (1973)].

  1. I'm surprised my cat-to-cat advice books have not wound up on a banned books list - I am sure most humans would consider them awfully subversive! But then, maybe I should just give it some more time...
